[CRS_META] Privacy of archives

I think passwords on the current mailman archives are a good idea.
For the future I think we should:
1. Setup our own mailman server on our website (hosting
calorierestriction.org). Transfer everyone to that. Password protect
it so mailman archives not viewable.
2. Do one more backup of listserv archives and EMWD mailman archives.
3. Stop subscribing to listserv and EMWD mailman and request that
their archives be removed. (btw, I think one benefit of that would be
a savings of $35 / month for EMWD, $65 / month for listserv. - not
sure if that's the correct cost).
4. Setup new subdomain (lists.calorierestriction.org) on our server.
Put a robots.txt on that. Send a request to google and other search
engines to remove any cache of those those. (Cache would have been
made when they were hosted by others; but once we have control over
the domain and setup a robots.txt we can request that caches be
removed).
About robot.txt: I agree that spam robots would ignore robots.txt.
Recently I removed the email addresses from the profile. So now they
are only in message body's if someone is replying. It's probably
possible to remove them from the body via modifying the php code in
the forum. So that should lock them down sufficiently. Later, I want
to change forum's so people can login and post on the forum and have
new posts (once approved) automatically sent to the lists. The forum
include a private "PM" feature (personal message) so it would enable
sending email to other list members without making anyones email
address visible. Hitch in allowing logging into forums now is that I
want to have the integration between the forum and the new mailman
lists (an possibly drupal) be such that users only need one password.
Not sure how to do it now. But we can setup the new lists and keep
the forum read-only (as it is now) and deal with that later.

Subject: off-list: CR list message forwarded
Hi Bob,
This is forwarded off-list from Tony. There is an easy switch to
make the EMWD archives (list.calorierestriction.org) require a
password which should stop any well-behaving robot. This might
keep the version useful as a backup and check on the new archives.

and technical logistics can be on the Meta list.

Re: "It was my fault (not googles). The robots.txt
file could not be read because I forgot to make an
entry in the .htaccess fie (Brian will understand
this). I fixed the problem and submitted requests to
google to have all the archived pages removed from
google."
Of course, the Robots Exclusion Standard is a
*voluntary* protocol for "well-behaved" robots.
Email address harvesting spiders run by spammers
are /extremely/ unlikely to be well-behaved:
