I asked Jeff to look into this and his reply is as
follows:
What Tim suggested (phpdig) would not be useful for
our archives because it is designed to index
individual files. The messages in the archives (about
80,000) are not stored as individual files. The
solution I'm working on will be much better, and at
this point, far easier to implement.
