Hi David/Meta,
I appreciate your point above and wish more people would heed it.
That said, the CRCOMM list was started many years after our CR
list which is more topically focused and we are strict about it
staying that way. The CRCOMM list was also started specifically
to have a wider variety of topics and non-CR subjects.
Some more recent non-CR subjects have annoyed at least a couple
readers (that I know of), and there are two things you can do about it:
1) Join the CR list instead. It is more topically focused, gets fewer
emails but is read by more people (1600 vs 500):
http://lists.calorierestriction.org/mailman/listinfo/cr_lists.calorierestriction.org
That is the list with the specific agenda (CR). CRCOMM was
intended to have much wider topicality. If that changes, it would
likely be do to conversations specific to that idea in the Meta
list or some other CRS operational-based forum.
2) Send your complaint to the Meta list which exists to govern the
other lists. Ideally, list management and rules are discussed on the
Meta list so as to not interfere with or shout down the on-going,
topical threads.
The second idea is already done for you as this message will not
be posted and will get sent to the Meta list (so others can review
our moderating judgement and see your POV regarding cell phone
chatter on the list). Also, as you can see from the amount of content
below my signoff, A LOT OF untrimmed material was sent with
your post. Further this post would get resent in all digest versions
as well (like a digest within a digest or a pizza stuffed with another
pizza inside the crust).
More importantly, I'd rather complaints go to Meta where they
may actually be effective and have positive influence:

Lastly, you can bookmark these links and it is always possible
to just browse list posts by author, date, thread, or subject online:
