Subject: [CRS_META] declined: crsociety - Forum discussions (o/t)
Hi Meta,
My off-list message is below. Based in part on off-list emails
and a strong desire not to moderate an off-topic discussion, I
think it is best to move the discussion elsewhere.

Hi Lujan,
Your opinion is both welcome and appreciated - you have a valid point
about the different nature of a forum vs a list. A forum will meet
needs that a list doesn't (and vice versa).
I ask at this time that the discussion occur in one of our other two
lists that are more suitable:
crcomm at lists.calorierestriction.org - Community list
crs_meta at lists.calorierestriction.org - Meta list (list governance)
The Community list contains most of our active posters and is better
established for topics peripheral to CR. Further, our moderators
are not burdened with enforcing topicality restrictions.
I do think that letting members know of another CR service is topical
but getting into a debate - or even a protracted discussion - about
the merits of one format versus another is better discussed on the
lists we have setup for that purpose.
I could post this for you to the Community list or you can do it
yourself but the decision ought to be yours to make. There is a
genuine interest in the merits of forums vs lists.
Meta is our smallest list but has many of the longer term, active,
and influential members of the CRS. This is where list policy can
be discussed (including moderation policy/decisions).
The oldest list - CR Society - does contain the bulk of our members
but over 90% only read the list and not post and we try to stay
focused on the science and practice of CR. Getting into meta
discussions about the list itself or minutia of the CRS is suitable
on the lists setup for this purpose.
